Central banks

Central banks (Fed, ECB, BoE) set interest rates to manage inflation and growth. Hawkish (raising/holding high) tends to strengthen a currency; dovish (cutting) tends to weaken it. Markets trade the expectation of policy, so speeches and forward guidance move price as much as the decision itself.
