Discipline is environment, not willpower
Most traders who appear disciplined have engineered their environment to make impulsive trades hard. Bracket orders pre-set, daily loss limits enforced by their broker, no charts open during family hours.
The three-rule starter pack
- Define daily loss limit in writing. When hit, platform closes for the day.
- Pre-define risk per trade (e.g. 0.5–1% of equity). No exceptions.
- Journal every trade within 30 minutes of close. Skip days erase the loop.
Review compounds, intent doesn't
Reading psychology articles doesn't change behaviour. The weekly review of your own actions does — because it makes the cost of bad habits explicit.
